A Alicia Designer Feature

About A Alicia:

I’m Anna, the London based designer-maker behind A Alicia Accessories. I’ve lived in London for nearly five years now, after moving here to study, and still find it an incredibly inspiring place. The A Alicia range is based on exploiting the textural and sculptural possibilities of fabrics such as felt and net, as well as their fabulous depth of colour. My pieces are handmade, down to each petal being cut and sewn by hand. I love how accessories can complete, transform or update an outfit - my aim is to make pieces that are bold but totally wearable.

Inspirations:

I have a background in Art History, and that, along with a love of craft and the skills involved, is fundamental to my work. Fashion, contemporary and historical craft techniques, and collections like the V&A, provide constant inspiration.

Best Sellers:

My long blossom corsages come in a range of colours and sizes and are incredibly versatile and wearable. They look fantastic on dresses, jackets, shirts, t-shirts… and can be fastened in a variety of ways to give different looks.

We Make Christmas:

At the We Make Christmas Fair I will be stocking items from my Autumn/Winter 09 collection, plus some new experimental pieces and one-offs. A Alicia accessories which includes corsage brooches, hair accessories and necklaces, make perfect, unique Christmas gifts. All are beautifully packed in gorgeous hand-printed gift boxes. Alternatively, treat yourself to something to update your winter wardrobe or reinvent your little black dress for all those Christmas parties.
The introduction of gold lame to my Autumn/Winter collection adds some winter sparkle.

Sabine Cornic Designer Feature

About Sabine Cornic:

Originally a Graphic Designer, I used to work as an Art Director in advertising for more than 10 years. After moving from Germany to the UK and becoming a freelancer I had more time to develop other skills and signed on for courses in Textile Design at St. Martins where I focused on printed Textiles. Since then I have started to screen print my own patterns and illustrations on fabric. I love to work with silk, and use my hand printed fabrics to create bags, purses, cushions and T-shirts.

Inspirations:

I draw my inspiration from nature, artistic movements like Art Nouveau, and Design periods like the 50's.

Best Sellers:

My best selling pattern so far is an Art Nouveau inspired motif of dragonflies. It proved to be very versatile for either purses and cushions, and I printed it on a variety of colours and materials. Here is a photo of a cushion.

We Make Christmas:

I will be present with my bags, purses and other Textiles, and will create some special luxurious items for the festive season.

TobyBoo Designer Feature

Tina and the Boo himself

About Tobyboo:

I create applique and freehand embroidered pieces for liitle boos (and some for big!)

To cut a very long story short, I'm a Jewellery graduate from Central Saint Martins that went into television then suddenly became ill and set up on my own to keep sane. I started out making one off handbags but fast forward to 2 years ago when you find yourself having to get heaps of baby presents that you can't afford, well you turn your hand to making them! Toby is just 2 years old and has changed my life in more ways than one. When my work got out the orders slowly came in and my spare room business was born!

Inspirations:

I describe my work as hotchpotch fabric creations. When I was younger my dad used to make curries that were made up and called it hotchpotch, you'd never get the same thing twice! My work is the same - one off pieces, I don't like to work with patterns as I've always worked more just hands on and seeing what works. My inspiration comes from places that you wouldn't think, I'm fascinated by the Victorians, not just the art and how things look but the memento madness they had from morning jewellery to post mortem photography. It makes me want to put a twist on things like the Pearly King tooth pocket or Baby Hair, Baby Hare. The more obvious inspiration to my work is the 50's but I think you can spot that!

Best Sellers:

My most popular piece are the 'Initial frames' they make a simple but original baby gift.

We Make Christmas:

I will be all out Christmas for the fair! Lots of one off decorations, gifts and gorgeous Tobyboo signature stockings.

Miso Funky Designer Feature

About Miso Funky:

I design and make offbeat interiors, taking the traditional medium of embroidery, and cross stitch in particular, and bringing it bang up to date with a modern twist. The art of embroidery is seen as very much an old-fashioned pastime and is long-associated with Victorian samplers or grannies stitching kittens in baskets but I like to challenge these perceptions with my quirky take on a traditional craft.

Inspirations:

My inspiration comes from so many different places - one of my best-selling items was inspired by an ancient heavy metal t-shirt of my husbands, another by a friend's catchphrase. Inspiration can hit in the strangest of places - I can be struck by an amazing idea when out shopping, when at my day job (I also work full-time as a Subtitler for TV) or just from a piece of old vintage fabric.

Signature Piece:

This is now my Make Tea Not War sampler. This was featured in the Sunday Times Style Magazine 2 weeks ago and I've been flat-out making them 24/7 ever since!

We Make Christmas:

This is my first time selling at a market in London and I'm really excited to be involved in We Make Christmas. I'll be bringing a selection of my embroidered samplers, as well as Christmas cards with a difference and my new selection of Miso Funky make your own kits, which I'm just about to launch.
