About A Alicia handmade: Anna Alicia took a round-about route to accessory design, via a degree in Art History at the University of Kent and an MA in Fine Art at Central St Martins, London. Her background in Art History and her practice as an artist play a huge role in inspiring her collections, as do the travels of her childhood, and the buzz of living and working in London. Alongside these influences, Anna Alicia also explores a fascination with historical craft and particularly Japanese craft and design.
Ethical and environmental concerns are central to her collections – all A Alicia accessories are made by hand in Anna Alicia’s London studio, using fairtrade organic cotton and vintage elements wherever possible. Far from finding it restrictive, Anna Alicia feels that working with limited materials inspires her to make the most of their possibilities.

A Alicia Designer Feature:

You:

I’m Anna, the London based designer-maker behind A Alicia Accessories. I’ve been running A Alicia Accessories for almost two years now and my mission this year has been to make my company as ethical and sustainable as possible. Ethical and sustainable production is something that means a lot to me and I’m enjoying the challenge!
I design and make every A Alicia accessory myself, in my East London studio, so I spend most of my time sewing!

Inspirations:

My current collection takes its inspirations from far and wide - from Victorian Lace Collars to 1970s macramé! The connecting factors are a fascination with historical craft techniques and the challenge of making the most of the eco-ethical materials currently available.

Best Sellers:

From my main collection my Six Cord Knitted Necklace is definitely the signature piece – reflecting my love of bold, chunky jewellery that’s totally wearable. This year I’ve also developed a wedding collection, and my Big Bow Garter in vintage ribbon has been a surprise hit – I think it just strikes that balance between being romantic, but also simple and contemporary.

We Make Christmas:

My current range at www.aalicia.bigcartel.com focuses on knitted cord necklaces and cuff bracelets (made from fairtrade, organic cotton), some embellished with vintage beads, others simple and bold. I will also be featuring work from my dedicated wedding store, www.aaliciawedding.bigcartel.com, including floral wrist corsages and vintage ribbon garters.

A Alicia Designer Feature:

Large Nude/Scarlet Printed Bow Organic Fairtrade Cotton

About A Alicia:

I’m Anna, the London based designer-maker behind A Alicia Accessories. I’ve been running A Alicia Accessories for just over a year now and my mission this year is to make my company as ethical and sustainable as possible. Ethical and sustainable production is something that means a lot to me personally and which I try hard to reflect in my choices as a consumer and a producer.
I design and make every A Alicia accessory myself, so I spend most of my time sewing!

Inspirations:

I have a background in Art History, and that, along with a love of craft and the skills involved, is fundamental to my work. Working with only ethically produced or vintage/reclaimed fabrics means that my materials are limited, but I actually find this inspiring! I love working within limits to create something I believe is exciting and new.

Best Sellers:

Large Indigo Corsage Fairtrade Organic Cotton

My new range of corsage brooches made from fairtrade, organic cotton has been the most popular seller so far this year, especially in the gorgeous handloomed indigo blue cotton.

We Make Summer Fair:

Fiesta Flamingo Necklace, Fairtrade Organic Cotton

My current range at www.aalicia.bigcartel.com is pretty diverse, including everything from pom pom necklaces to flower fascinators to oversized bows detailed with vintage lamé... all made from fairtrade, organic or vintage fabrics. I’ve also just opened a new dedicated wedding store, www.aaliciawedding.bigcartel.com concentrating on wedding accessories, so I’ll also be featuring items from there such as buttonholes and garters!
