Popup Update - Work from New Designers!

We are excited to welcome an influx of work from new designers into the popup @ 53 Camden Lock Place, West Yard, London NW1 8AF this month!

As before, there's an abundance of gorgeous handmade products to suit most wallets and tastes so why not come and see us. The shop is open daily (including weekends!) from 11am to 6pm and you're guaranteed a smile and a chat.

Panto Time:

The theme for the fair is pantomime, we have heard rumours that Sow White and Peter Pan will be paying a visit with some other panto friends. We are running a fancy dress competition. Arrive in fancy dress and you will be given free entry. You will also have your picture taken by our lovely photographer Sibell Barrowclough. Choir:

We have a lovely choir The Jubilee Singers, they will be preforming at 11.30 til 12.00 and 12.30 til 1.00. They will be collecting money for charity.

To escape from the cold on saturday we are sure you will be tempted by the yummy menu on offer from our cafe at the town hall. Mince pies, yule log, festive sandwiches, and mulled wine, plus lots more. The cafe will be open all day.

Make Industries Designer Feature:

About Make Industries:

I am an architect with years of experience in the building industry and years of experience
crafting! My fascination with cross stitch began when I had a serious back injury in 1996
and was confined to a spinal injuries unit for four months. To ease the boredom I started
cross stitching in occupational therapy and realised that the patterns available to stitchers
were mostly traditional and old fashioned. After a long rehabilitation Make Industries was
founded with the goal of creating up to date urban craft products which now sell online and
across London in shops including the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Inspirations:

Make Industries is about creating products that bring craft up to date by drawing inspiration
from the built environment. Architecture tends to take itself too seriously and craft not seriously
enough! I like to poke fun at architecture and ook for beauty in everyday objects
such as shop signs and lego to inspire upcoming projects.




Best Sellers:

The Battersea Power Station kits are the most popular. This building seems to have a
strong resonance with many people. The iconic structure proves that buildings are made of
memories as well as brick, steel and glass.



We Make Christmas:

I am developing framed cross stitch kits with architectural quotes and ʻcity cushionsʼ for the
Christmas show. This will expand the product range beyond kits for those that donʼt have
the time or patience for cross stitching!

About LauraLaura:

As a life-long customiser and jumble sale addict, the LauraLaura label developed from a sweater I embroidered for myself. It got so many comments and people asking where to buy that I started gathering lambswool and cashmere (I'm a complete knitwear snob, 100% natural fibres only!) and got sewing. The recycled element was key for me, and so I also started making jewellery using the tins of odd buttons and vintage fabrics I'd collected over the years. All the embroidery is done by hand, by me, in my handwriting so each piece of LauraLaura knitwear is truly unique.

Inspirations:

LauraLaura is new from old, taking things that have become redundant and making them desirable again. I hope to create pieces you treasure season after season. The sweaters are my prim antidote to the ever pervasive slogan t-shirt; make a statement but make it polite.

We are a London based Design Company, specializing in quirky baby and toddler wear. Our designs are made from limited edition Liberty printed cotton, Irish linen, organic jersey, trimmed with vintage lace and buttons. Hand decorated and hand made in England

Inspirations:

I am a lingerie designer with over 15 years' experience, working for international brands in far flung places such as New York, Hong Kong and London, and now a full time mother to a beautiful two year old daughter. About Kate Garey:


Kate Garey is an up and coming handbag and accessories designer. Her work has been featured in many high end magazines such as Easy Living, The Lady and Bliss and many national newspaper supplements such as The Sunday Time Style and the Daily Mail Weekend to name but a few. Her quirky bags have rapidly gained a cult following as they offer something a little different and unique.
Kate set about creating her brand in October 2007 and by May 2008 the Website, KateGarey.com was born. Everything is made in limited numbers so it makes every piece even more special and the products are beautifully made with quality fabrics. Being creative and crafty is a dream way to make a living. I take my inspirations anywhere and everywhere and always have a pencil and notebook handy. Welcome to the first of our Designer features for our Christmas fair. Over the next two months we will introduce you to some of the amazing, talented designers that will be exhibiting at the fair.


About close your eyes hold out your hand. :

Like a lot of girls, I’m a bit of a magpie – show me something with an interesting texture, or in an unusual colour, or with a bit of sparkle, and I’m utterly hooked. And then, by happy accident I simultaneously discovered the ancient art of felt making one rainy weekend (that’s the texture and colour boxes ticked), and finally indulged in a long standing desire to learn how to work with silver (and that makes three!). And so close your eyes hold out your hand. was born, indulging me and my magpie tendencies.

I work from my studio at home in London, with Charlie the dachshund and Harriet and Emily the chickens for company and the odd biting critique (very hard to please, chickens).

Inspirations:

Like my chickens, I’m hard to please when it comes to jewellery, so I suppose my inspiration and what pushes me forward is the desire to create things that take my own breath away.

Best Sellers:

I came up with this piece by happy accident about 4 months into making and selling jewellery. I was just playing about with some silver blanks and different colours of felt (my design process is a bit ad hoc, in contrast to the structure and rigour of contract management which is where I built my first career). This is the piece that triggered my eureka moment as a designer and crafter of jewellery. “Yes. This is what I’m all about. This is what I want other people to see of me.”

We Make Christmas:

I’m quite new to jewellery, so at the moment my pieces are evolving almost daily as I become more and more comfortable and adventurous with what I’m doing. I’m looking forward to showcasing the very best of my work at We Make Christmas, some new colour combinations, perhaps some new shapes and textures. I’m really excited by the thought of faces lighting up as close your eyes hold out your hand. pieces are unwrapped around the Christmas tree this year!

We Make Christmas Fair

After six successful fairs We Make is pleased to announce its seventh fair, this year’s Christmas fair.

This will take place at Chelsea Old Town Hall, Kings Road, London on 4^th December 2010.

The Venue:

Situated on Kings Road, Chelsea town hall is a perfect location for a high volume of passing trade and shoppers. The beautiful building with original oil paintings, marbled floors and columns and chandeliers creates a fantastic surrounding for a fair. The facilities available include the main hall, surrounding hall ways, and two smaller rooms.

The Date:

We Makes Christmas fair will take place on 4^th December 2010. The doors will open at 11am till 5pm. With set up from 10am.

Application Process:

If you would like to apply for a stall at our Christmas Fair please email us at wemakelondon@googlemail.com

Completed application forms along with 3 -5 good quality images must be returned to us by email by midnight on the 31st July 2010. The images will be used in our selection process so please make sure they are a good, clear representation of your work.

The application process deadline is 31^st July 2010. All applications will be collated until then. Please note we do not accept applications on a first come first served basis, our selection is based on quality of products and maintaining a vast range of products throughout the fair.

We will then let everyone know by the end of the second week of August if they have a stall.
