Red Fox...Blue Monkey Designer Feature:

About Red Fox...Blue Monkey:

…red fox…blue monkey…is the brainchild of Jessica Ayre, created whilst in her final years, studying Silversmithing and Jewellery, at Loughborough University. Jessica has loved making jewellery since she was a child, but later craved the knowledge of how to create it from core materials, and now lives out her ambition of being an independent jeweller. Currently working from Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, she enjoys creating all her silver jewellery by hand and thrives on seeing people fall in love with her creations. Jessica is always developing new designs, so keep an eye out for beautiful new collections and additions.

Inspirations

Inspired by nature: butterflies, birds, flowers and twigs feature heavily in my work. I like to keep my work light-hearted and fun, as I feel too many things have to be kept serious in life and jewellery definitely shouldn’t be one of them.

Best Sellers:

The butterfly earrings is where it all started, whilst at University I developed this design and soon realised that I wanted to make jewellery that was beautiful yet affordable, quirky yet wearable. The butterflies have since appeared throughout many of my pieces, and have also led on to other collections being created.

We Make Summer Fair:

I will be showcasing a selection of work from my current 3 ranges; birds, twigs and butterflies. I will also be working on developing new ranges throughout May, so there will be a sneaky preview of this before it makes in to shops and on the web! Styles may include: rings, earrings, hoops, bangles, bracelets, necklace, brooches and cufflinks. Catalogues may also be available, while stocks last.

Designer Spotlight- Moments by Martha

Becci has always loved making things whether it is baking, sewing or jewellery.

Becci’s stunning jewellery incorporates a wonderful range of gemstones and wooden shape. These are complimented with a range of metals including sterling silver.

‘Most of my jewellery is one of a kind... I tend to make what I think would best suit the stones that I have. I love cubes, and the sharper lines that, when included in pieces, get softened by the appearance of the whole item. I love shiny and matte beads, and have recently delved into metals other than silver.’

Waiting For We Make Christmas:
For We Make Christmas Becci will be bringing some of her best selling pieces, including her two square earrings with red sponge coral. The first ever pair of these were actually sold at We Make in June.

Spotlight- My Aphrodite

….Silver Smithing by the Seat of Her Pants!

My Aphrodite is a mystical world of silver, semi precious gemstones, and pre Raphaelite inspired beauty.

“My technique is what I’d call ‘flying by the seat of my pants’. My original training in metal work was very brief, so I’m largely self taught. I probably don’t do things quite the way I’m supposed to, but they seem to turn out alright in the end!”

As if to illustrate this point, My Aphrodite is full of unique, magical, jewellery designs, each easily identifiable as a My Aphrodite designer piece. The design below is called ‘The potential for Flight’ and is a clear bestseller.

My Aphrodite is a lover of using bird imagery; her daughter is even named after a bird. As well as symbolic imagery, My Aphrodite designs are inspired by mythology and art, especially that of the Pre Raphaelite movement. You will recognise many of her design names from literature and paintings.

Available at We Make Christmas

My Aphrodite is bringing a huge selection of her iconic silver and gemstone artwork with her to We Make Christmas. Be sure to take a look through her etsy store and get a feel for the names and stories behind each piece before you come to look at them in person.

Don’t wait till We Make Christmas!

Although many of My Aphrodite’s beautiful jewellery designs can be reproduced, there are some stunning one off’s that you won’t want lose, like her Queen Mab necklace (see below)

This design tells a thousand stories, from the icy effect of the moonstones, through to the spiky imagery of the silverwork, and the tiny beads hanging like snow drops.
