About Sasha and Elisabeth:
Why did you start doing what you do?
We both love vintage objects and fabrics and have a mutual obsession with surface design and print. We were both designing and selling products separately and were introduced by mutual friends when we moved to Suffolk. We immediately realised we had similar interests, ideas and ambitions. We had fun doing a couple of stalls together selling our individual products and decided that by putting our ideas together we could really develop an incredible business. We work well together because we inspire, motivate and support each other.
Why did you choose your business name?
Because we are the two designers and so we thought it made sense to use our own names, particularly as our names sound nice together!
How long have you been doing what you do?
We set up our partnership in July 2010 but had both been designing separately for a few years before that.
What else do you like to do?
We love visiting boot fairs, auctions and craft fairs. In particular when we find or are inspired by unusual plates, fabrics and objects.
What is your ultimate goal for your business?
We have big plans for our business. Now that we are entering our second year of trading our next step is definitely to infiltrate the London market. We have had lots of success at London craft fairs but we are now eager to see our products stocked in shops there too. We’d love to see our products stocked in shops such as Liberty’s and Selfridges but also across the UK in fun and quirky boutiques. We have just finished designing our first range of S&E fabric which is really exciting so we hope to be making some lampshades from this fabric soon. We are also planning a new range of jewellery which we are aiming at those people who like to stand out from the crowd!
If you could make something for a famous person who and what would it be....?
We already have! We were commissioned to make 6 lampshades for an English actor who lives in Suffolk. However if we could choose another famous person then we would love to design an eye catching broken plate necklace for Vivienne Westwood, we think the style would suit her perfectly!
Inspirations:
We are inspired by vintage objects and fabrics as well as the natural world particularly the Suffolk countryside. We love going for walks in our local woods and coming across interesting birds, animals, flowers and trees. We also love the Arts and Crafts movement and visiting the William Morris gallery.
