Designer Feature Series: Meet Nancy Edwards

About Nancy Edwards:

Originally from Norwich, Norfolk, I graduated from Goldsmiths with a first class BA Honours degree in Textiles, and have lived in London ever since. I take inspiration from my surroundings and often my illustrations are direct responses to my environment. The city is my stimulus; its diversity, architecture and aesthetic. I am influenced by good design; classic pieces, clean lines and solid shapes.
My work is always hand drawn, often from photographs, and is then digitally, stylistically manipulated and printed. It is a very detailed, intricate process and, as a result, can often take weeks to complete.

Inspirations:

Having worked for Architects for many years, I am very interested in the skyline of London, its buildings and their relationship to each other. And with my background in textiles, I like to bring cloth or patterns into my work when I can.

Best Sellers:

London Skyline (Northbank): a meticulous drawing that took weeks to do. Very indicative of my style.

We Make Christmas Pop Up Shopping Experience:

Buyers can expect to see prints and cards, including a skyline from Primrose Hill (which I am making for the show).

Designer Feature Series: Meet Lok Ming Fung

About Lok Ming Fung:
I started my business in 2007, after graduating from a Ceramic Design degree. I wanted to continue making and start selling my pieces to the public, starting with ceramic boxes and expanding the range to jewellery. I also have a new range of plates of my hand drawn sketches of mushrooms, ‘Ecology’.

I love making, getting involved with all sorts of making, trawling through charity and vintage shops, finding nostalgic items.

Inspirations:
I am inspired by nature, colours and texture. I find inspirations from arts, design to fashion. I love making pieces that have bursts of detail but does not over the piece; simple but not too all over.
‘Oohhh…’ is a collection of boxes that was inspired by the Japanese Inro boxes and Russian dolls. With the elements of ‘hiding/wrapping’, enclose, open and surprise, all these elements contribute to the enjoyment of the revealing.

Best Sellers:

The bestselling box piece is the White with green colours. The jewellery pieces are also a big hit, especially the earrings. You can enter the prize draw to win a pair!

We Make Christmas Pop Up Shopping Experience:

At the We Make Christmas fair, you will see a wide range of handmade pieces and there is something for everyone! You will want to buy everything!
At the Christmas fair, I will be selling my Oohhh jewellery boxes that have insertable trays that sit inside them and my jewellery range which consists of Cufflinks, Necklace, Earrings and brooches.
The ‘Ecoclogy’ collection set of plates will be making a debut at We Make as well as some new Christmas decorations!

Designer Feature Series: Meet Anna Wiscombe

 About Anna Wiscombe:
Anna Wiscombe, originally from the countryside of Dorset, now lives and works in London but still draws her inspiration from the natural environment that surrounded her while growing up!

Using birds, animals and leaves in her designs, she produces a collection of decorative and functional wooden products that are full of intricate details and have their own special character.

Her love of nature and the shapes found within it are given a contemporary edge by using bright colours and stylised forms whilst always complimenting the natural beauty of the wood.

All of Anna’s work is lovingly handmade, by her, from start to finish.  Whilst pieces are replicated, no two will ever be the same, making each one an individual character for you to enjoy!

Inspirations:

I love drawing but also working in a three dimensional way so by creating decorative objects with intricate carved patterns I get to combine two of my biggest influences!
I also love working with colour and enjoy pairing natural woods with bright, contemporary finishes - hopefully creating modern products that people enjoy as much as I do making them!

Best Sellers:

My best sellers are my range of brooches – fun, cute and with lots of different designs to enjoy, they’re definitely the things that people like the most!

We Make Christmas Pop Up Shopping Experience:

For this year’s Christmas Fair I’ll be making lots of lovely festive treats including wooden baubles & decorations, beautiful wooden wreaths and garlands as well as a fun little robin redbreast brooch!
I will also have all my ranges of decorative standing and wall birds as well as stylish wooden necklaces and brooches!

Its Christmas Time:

We are all getting into the Christmas spirit in preparation for our fair on Saturday.

We have some exciting things at the fair to create a real festive feel.

Christmas Stage Area:

We have a Christmas stage area at the back of the main hall. Five festive stalls with Fabric decorations, Cushions, Ceramics, Christmas Cakes, Preserves and much more.

Choir:

We are also pleased to welcome back Jubilees Singers. They preformed at our Christmas fair last year and filled the hall with festive songs. They will be preforming at 12.30pm - 1pm and 1.30pm - 3pm

Food and Mulled Wine:

Outside of the hall in Town Hall Road, BAC have a food market. This is a added feature to the day with Mulled Wine, Roasted Chestnuts, Hog Roast.
There will also be real Christmas trees on sale and a pretty avenue of Christmas trees to walk through. Making it a perfect festive day out filled with lots of Christmas cheer.

Designer Feature Series: Meet Flaming Lily Glass

About Flaming Lily Glass:
Flaming Lily Glass is me, Michelle Hunter.  After a fair number of years working in libraries, I set up a creative business as I wanted to do something which would stretch me and allow me to develop my creativity.  As I don’t have much formal glass design training (it’s all been experimentation!) and little business training either, it’s been quite a baptism by fire at times, but well worth it.  The attraction of glass is always about the play of light and my aim with Flaming Lily Glass is to create items for the home which serve a purpose but are beautiful and elegant at the same time.

Inspirations:
I draw inspiration from all over the place and find I am usually attracted to something primarily by colour or light or both.  Nature is a big influence, as it is for many people, but I also find forms of architecture which provide a strong sense of place to have quite an influence on me.

Best Sellers:

My bestsellers are definitely dishes featuring my Seastone design  This really came about by chance as I was working on something else entirely and although I loved the colour I wasn’t happy with it and decided to break up the glass (always therapeutic!). The resulting fragments looked so great I wanted to show them off and incorporated them into a design, which I then called Seastone because of the blue-coloured geological appearance of the strips.

We Make Christmas Pop Up Shopping Experience:
As well as my usual bowls and platters, I have also been making a range of stocking fillers for the fair.  These smaller dishes can be used as trinket holders, soap dishes or even as glamorous spoon rests for the kitchen.

I will also be showing my new glass name sculptures for the first time.  These freestanding glass names make wonderful presents for occasions such as Christenings or maybe even Christmas!  They will be appearing on my website very shortly if you would like more information before the fair.
