Mrs Eliot Books Designer Feature

About Mrs Eliot Books:

All I ever wanted to do was make things, and I still can’t believe how lucky I am! My little wooden books started as illustrations in a sketchbook at art college; but I wanted to make an artists’ book that was sturdier than paper and could be displayed open on a shelf. Too many artists’ books are closed and you never get to see them! I like to break images down to their bare bones of colour, shape and pattern, to communicate an idea as simply as possible.

I live in North London with my husband and two boys.

Inspirations:

Most of my ideas come from happy accidents. I’m inspired by random shapes and colour palettes, a word or an overheard conversation. I like to make concertina card versions of my books so there is something for everybody. And my love of textiles has now crept into my work in the form of tea towels.

‘I want to go home’ has been my best selling piece (I have one left from an edition of 10), although I have lots of popular cards and prints. This piece really illustrates how I use words to inspire an image. Also, my love of finding the perfect composition – starting with a white space and filling it with just the right amount of image.

Best Sellers:

We Make Christmas:

I will be selling some wooden books, prints and cards and I’m sure I’ll have some tea towels too. I am currently working on Christmas cards so they will be available as well.
