About Gemma Lou:
Gemma Lou, illustrator/ textile artist. I live in Oxfordshire and have always lived in the same house. I have a National Diploma in general art and design, and a Degree in graphic design and illustration. I now work mainly in textiles, creating 2-D illustration and 3-D characters. I also use photography, drawing and the computer in my process. My work has been shown at various places including: Banbury museum, North Wall arts centre Summertown, Liverpool Artists book fair and Cotswold Craft market.
I like my characters to have a feeling that they have already been loved and have a story to tell.
Inspirations:Initially I began working in textiles while researching the Victorian era and finding inspiration from the English countryside and traditional crafts, the Arts and Craft movement and Romanticism. After developing a style of working I find inspiration from many places including: antique/ charity shops, music, my childhood and Fairytales.
Best Sellers:
I always make one of a kind characters, so each one feels special. Although I have now got a few character designs to make multiples, but no two ever turn out the same. They just evolve from the fabric I choose. Each character does come with one of my labels attached.
We Make Christmas:
As well as lots of fabric characters, there will be printed items, handmade books and smaller creatures in boxes!
