Fabric Nation Designer Feature

About Fabric Nation:

I design and hand make accessories and homewares with vintage fabric. Give me a pair of flowery curtains and I will stitch and snip, glue and gather. Call it DIY, indie crafting or neo-craft, I love it and have done it since I made a dress out of a curtain to wear to a gig. The dress became a bag, the bag became a cat, the cat became a hair slide. Dressing up and setting up stall, taking pics and putting up shops, chatting with my crafty pals, it makes my sun shine. I also make print gocco cards based on my collection of fabrics and vintage toy patterns.

Inspirations:

I dream of fabrics from the 1950s, 60s and 70s. My inspiration is the hidden treasure waiting to be discovered in charity shops, car boots and attics and transformed into something new. I love textile designers like Genia Sapper, but sadly few vintage fabrics have the names of the designers on them. Since joining Folksy (http://www.folksy.com/) a year ago and taking part in different handmade craft events around the country I have been blown away by the creative talent and imagination I have encountered and I’m really looking forward to seeing all of this under one roof at We Make Christmas.

Best Sellers:

My postcard purses have been very popular. Made with vintage souvenir fabrics with simple screen printed coastal scenes, often just two or three colours, on vintage linens. They evoke bright, sunny holidays with the simplest of images. I have teamed theses fabrics up with gingham trims, birdy buttons and an embroidered postcard message to create purses that evoke nostalgic seaside summers.

We Make Christmas:

At We Make Christmas, I will be selling my trademark postcard purses and vintage toy pattern inspired bags, brooches, cards and cushions. Vintage fabric gifts will be available for all ages and pockets, from handmade soft animals to door stops, handbags, purses, card holders, hair slides brooches and badges. I will also have textile Christmas tree decorations, combining my love of vintage textiles and sparkly glass baubles, lots of vintage fabric stocking fillers and my famous Elvis bunting!

Thanks Em. Really looking forward to it too. The We Make team have been amazing in all they are doing to make this event a success. I gave out tons of leaflets in Dulwich and people really like them and many plan to attend.

I found you! Just checking out this show - looks great! Sounds like they have this show at various venues throughout the year? Perhaps you can clear that one up for me!
